Composed at the dawn of the most creative period in the life of Leoš Janáček, The Diary of one who disappeared explores the tragic story of a young farmer who, after having been seduced by a beautiful gypsy and sacrificing everything for her, disappears mysteriously. The brevity of the work leaves time for a few of another of the composer’s other famous jewels, the a capella Choruses for Male Voices.
