This new production of Lully’s Thésée is exceptional in many ways : a
masterpiece of French baroque opera, Thésée made a huge splash when it first premiered, only to disappear from view. Exhumed some 10 years ago by William Christie, with the assistance of Emmanuelle Haïm, it was rediscovered in a semi-staged version. Now Emmanuelle Haïm and the Concert d’Astrée, along with Jean-Louis Martinoty as director, have taken up the challenge of bringing to the stage the full visual and musical splendours of this tragédie en musique written in the Grand Siècle style.
