The Prazák and Talich Quartets are prolonging their stay at the Opéra de Lille for a grand finale of chamber music which will unite the two ensembles into a quintet and an octet. The common denominator for these three exceptional encounters is Dvorák, here with a performance of his scorching Quintet opus 97, as well as Leos Janácek’s famous ?Kreutzer Sonata? quartet. Rounding it all off, this string ?dream team’ will make us review our idea of the sublime as we listen to Mendelssohn. ?Neither in days gone by nor in modern times is greater perfection to be found from such a young master!? proclaimed Schumann after listening to the Octet in E flat major opus 20. For more than thirty minutes, the composer makes his music radiate in a frothing, bounding and unforeseeable way, all the way to a finale that succeeds in extracting the quintessence of the moods encountered in earlier movements, transforming all the themes in the work.
