BACH, CEMBALO OBBLIGATO
SOLOISTS OF LE CONCERT D’ASTRÉE
In 1717, discharged from religious offices and the weekly production of cantatas, Bach enjoyed a considerable period of inspiration. Taking the harpsichord out of its role as basso continuo accompaniment, he wrote an obligato part for the right hand, weaving a three-voice counterpoint between the violin, the right hand and the left hand of the harpsichord –a disposition that prefigures the classical sonata. It is this production “con cembalo obbligato” and “a cembalo solo” that will be honoured by the soloists of Le Concert d’Astrée, along with one of the most sought-after voices of the baroque stage, that of the baritone Victor Sicard.
