As the title suggests, the sunny timbre of the soprano Amel Brahim-Djelloul and the piano of Nicolas Jouve reveal to us a rich landscape of melodies inspired by traditional and popular song. This same rich vein also generously fed Ravel’s Greek melodies as well as Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne, the Castilian Melodies of Henri Collet (the most Spanish of French composers), and Respighi’s Four Scottish Songs.
