We know well how the singers of the Maîtrise de Caen invest the stage, if we but recall their performance in Venus & Adonis. This programme dedicated to 17th century French and Italian oratorio sets in parallel Jephte by Carissimi and Mors Saülis and Jonathae by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, a contemporary of Rameau. Two biblical operas where paternal love is tested by God’s will: a theme we will find again with Mozart in the performances of Idomeneo.
