‘‘I perceive movement as a musical thing. It engenders sounds”, writes Sasha Waltz. With gefaltet, the choreographer unfolds the interstices of sound to carry the movement to the point of incandescence. In this choreographic concert, which opened the Mozart Week 2012 in Salzburg, the German company Sasha Waltz & Guests and the French composer Mark Andre collaborate around a central idea: the fold. gefaltet is above all the experience of the interstice, the measure in the space of interaction between the note and the human being, between the sound and the gesture.

Since the creation of her company in 1993, Sasha Waltz has explored ever new forms of performance: since Impromptus and her collaborations with Pascal Dusapin in Passion and Medea, her work emanates from the interaction of the dancers, and the spaces inhabited by dance and music. The musicians thus have here their place on the stage among the dancers so that the one can react to the other, as ‘‘joint creators”. This is also why the score by Mark Andre was not prepared in isolation, alone at the writing table, but in contact with the dancers, in reaction to their movements.
