From Seattle, Daniel Linehan is the perfect representative of his native city’s spirit: at the same time modern, distinguished and yet very rock’n’roll. It was to take a class at PARTS, the school created in Brussels by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, that Linehan came to Europe, where he very quickly met with success.
At age 30, he had already imposed his own choreographic language exploring with humour and rigour all the imaginable variations between body and voice, movement and language, synchronisation and discrepancy.
‘‘The tension born from the opposition of unbridled physicality and structured choreography is one of the main driving forces of my approach,” he explains. It is now at the Lille Opera, where he begins an artistic residence, that he will be able to refine his joyously explosive style. This new creation, presented in the context of the Contemporary Latitudes festival, looks at the way technology augments our capacity to be human. Daniel Linehan plays with video materials to multiply the levels of perception and also to foment trouble between live and pre-recorded events.
