In recent years, the Beaux-Arts Trio, the Jerusalem Trio, the Talich and Prazak Quartets have all come to the Lille Opera. The invitations to the world’s leading chamber music ensembles continue this season with a guest of choice: the Takács Quartet. Founded in 1975 in Budapest by Gabor Takács-Nagy, this quartet quickly garnered numerous first prizes and has toured the world ever since. It enjoys numerous residencies, at the South Bank Centre, at the Guildhall School of Music of London and the University of Colorado in the USA.

Its repertoire covers all the major fields of music for string quartet, from Haydn and Mozart to Brahms, Janácek and Bartók, each time earning a flood of accolades, both for its rich and engaging interpretations as for its stunning technical mastery, its sound, its ability to go from deep and delicate meditation to a feverish virtuosity.

This group has distinguished itself even further with its interpretation of the Beethoven quartets, with their enigmatic accents, which the Takács take with remarkable lucidity, a contrasted tone that is nostalgic yet exuberant at the same time.
